A futuristic school
What makes a school futuristic?
The word ‘futuristic’ is complex and, no doubt, it sparks off visions of computers and robots everywhere. But we aren’t there yet. We are, however, well on our way into a 21st-century journey where we are creating an environment of learning for our children, making them future-ready. It’s a journey we take seriously in SCR Public School.
As members of society, and especially as parents and members of an academic fraternity, it is our responsibility to see how our children are being prepared for the future. A key to this pursuit is our inherent belief in lifelong learning.
Lifelong learning is our inherent belief not only because we are a CBSE school whose one major guiding principle is lifelong learning; but also because it is one of our strategies to empower our children so that they are able to manage the rapid changes which are affecting our lives as Indians and as citizens of this world.
Of the many changes which are affecting our lives, there are two which matter a great deal to us: technology and climate change. And both are unstoppable. They will continue to affect our lives no matter what we do or how we attempt to deal with them. Therefore, it only makes sense for us to prepare our children now for a lifetime.
Technology is changing everything: from the way we learn in schools and colleges to the way we shop, travel, work, manage our households, socialize with friends and family, and entertain ourselves. This change has put a heavy demand on our skills and knowledge – and a direct impact on our employability. Happily, at SCR, we are enabling our facilitators and our learners to keep pace with this change.
Climate change is, of course, a huge challenge. No matter what the arguments are against it, we can see and experience how the planet we inhabit is responding to global warming. Many solutions are being considered by scientists and global leaders; and, in our own small way, we too are adopting possible solutions towards sustainability and an eco-friendly environment for our children and our community through our Schools Program.
As you know, it’s not possible to achieve all this alone. Accepting each other and helping each other to achieve our personal and collaborative goals and aspirations.
As members of this large planet, we see no boundaries. We understand that we need to – and we can effortlessly – include others whose thinking, religion, ethnicity, language, culture, values, and lifestyles are different from ours. And we can do this without sacrificing our own thinking or values or identities. Thereby, living together in peace and harmony.
It’s an awareness we already possess in our School. That’s what makes us who we are. That’s what makes us a futuristic school.
